Although we can all do our bit, the solution to this problem is ultimately political.
Use the Contact Politicians page to contact your Australian Federal Representative and the Prime Minister. Remember, they will only do what's necessary if enough people contact them. Please do it and it will only take 5-10 minutes of your time.
I have provided a suggested text that you can copy and paste and alter as you wish or you can write your own.
In addition, you should go to WhoOnEarthCares and put yourself on the map along with thousands of other Australians.
What follows are several important resources and websites.
Carbon Equity
www.carbonequity.info set up by David Spratt and Philip Sutton is an excellent source of well researched material on the problem and the solutions. Their book 'Climate Code Red' has just been released
Al Gore
Please hire or buy the DVD 'An Inconvenient Truth'. It is one of the clearest and most entertaining summaries of the science and threat posed by global warming and it is still up to date (although some of the things predicted are now predicted to happen much sooner)
Watch or read Al Gore's Challenge to repower America. One of the best speeches I have ever seen on any subject that simply and clearly explains the problem and solution to the climate crisis.
www.wecansolveit.org is the website set up by Al Gore to help halt global warming.
Dr James Hansen, NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies
Probably the World's best and most respected authority on climate change.
A PDF of a recent presentation warning of the critical danger
Other articles and links
Arctic ice melt
The arctic could be ice free in summer 2013. This would initiate a series of feedback loops making global warming much worse and more difficult to stop.

www.coolmelbourne.org
A great site with information for young and old about true sustainability and the climate crisis. Well written with simple, easy to understand and compelling text. Also has good practical ways to make a difference.
www.whoonearthcares.com
Set up by the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) and supported by a number of individuals and companies it aims to put Australian who care about the environment on the map. It also provides an easy way to contact your local politician.
The Garnaut Climate Change Review
The Garnaut Climate Change Review was commissioned by Australia's Commonwealth, state and territory governments to examine the impacts, challenges and opportunities of climate change for Australia.
It paints a bleak picture if sufficient action is not taken soon.
Tim Flannery
Australian of the year in 2007. His book 'The Weathermakers' beautifully puts humans, ecosystems and climate in context.
GetUp
GetUp is an independent, grass-roots community advocacy organisation giving everyday Australians opportunities to get involved and hold politicians accountable on important issues including the environment. |
